A three-hour experience for Black women who are done carrying this alone
Limited to 20 women — seats will go fast
This is an experience. A room of women — no more than 20 — gathered in Detroit to do something most of us have never been given permission to do. Tell the truth about what living in this body has cost us.
You will write. You will paint. You will sit at a table with women who understand what you haven't been able to say out loud. You will leave with the journal, a gift, a full stomach, and something you didn't expect to find. The beginning of your way back home.
Detroit is where this journey starts. It is where Courtney's roots are, in Cass Tech, Belle Isle, the city that raised her. There is no more fitting place to bring this journal to life for the first time.
Doors open to a room designed with intention — low lighting, music, a full grazing table of cheeses, fruits, and charcuterie waiting for you. A question card sits at your seat: "What brought you here tonight?"
Each woman receives a canvas, brushes, and paint. What does your womb feel like right now? What does it hold? What do you want it to represent? As you paint, Courtney reads prompts from the journal aloud. The conversation flows. Some women will cry. Some will laugh. All of it is welcome. There is no wrong way to paint this.
Small groups of four to five women. One journal prompt per group — something from Phase 1 with real weight. Ten minutes of private writing. Then open sharing, never required, always welcomed. You will hear things in that room that remind you why you came. The journal is introduced not as a product but as a next step, the conversation that continues after tonight.
Every woman writes one thing she is releasing on a slip of paper, provided for her. She folds it. She keeps it or she places it in the bowl at the center of the room. A closing ritual that marks the evening as something real. Then the room stays open. No rush. The conversations that happen in the last 20 minutes are always the ones women remember longest. Before leaving, every woman turns to someone she didn't come with and says one true thing she is taking home.
Every woman leaves with a canvas she painted herself. A record of where she was on October 17th, 2026. What her body held, what she was releasing, what she was beginning to reclaim.
No artistic experience required. No right way to do this. The womb on your canvas can be abstract, symbolic, literal, or completely unrecognizable. What matters is that it is yours.
All materials provided. Canvases, brushes, acrylic paint in a curated palette. You bring yourself. The paint does the rest.
Your canvas. Your womb.
Your story to paint.
A physical copy of The Journey Back Home — yours to keep, write in, and carry forward from this evening.
